Pärnu City Gallery’s gallery at Endla Theatre is showing two new exhibitions, ERR reported. They feature works by Estonian artist Janno Bergmann and Finnish visual artist Joonas Ahtikallio.
Bergmann’s solo exhibition, “Mikrogenees”, presents works created through experiments with analogue photography. All the pieces are made on black-and-white photographic paper using light and chemicals, combining lumen printing and chemigram techniques.
Bergmann said the term “microgenesis” comes from perceptual psychology and describes the moment when time passes between seeing and understanding, rather than comprehension occurring automatically.
Ahtikallio’s series consists of abstract portraits, mostly of people he met during a residency in Pärnu. He said he was drawn to camera-free photography because of its many layers and its return to the roots and basic principles of photography.
The exhibitions are open until October 3.
