Estonia, presidential election, Vilja Toomast

Reform Party MP Vilja Toomast will not take part in Estonia’s presidential election in parliament on Wednesday because she is in France attending her daughter’s wedding, ERR reported. Her absence means presidential candidate Ülle Madise will have one fewer vote.

“I am in France because my daughter is getting married,” Toomast told Delfi.

Toomast’s daughter Rosina, whose father is Edgar Savisaar, is getting married. She has been closely connected with France since 2009 and continued her studies there after completing school in Tallinn.

Toomast confirmed that she supports Madise, although she will be unable to express that support in the vote.

The first round of the presidential election is scheduled to begin in parliament at noon on Wednesday. The National Electoral Committee has registered Madise as a candidate after 75 members of parliament nominated her.
