Nausėda backs Germany after drone incident, vows Russian intimidation will fail

President Gitanas Nausėda expressed Lithuania’s solidarity with Germany over a drone incident at Leipzig Airport, saying Russia’s attempts to intimidate would fail, LRT reported.

The Lithuanian presidency said on Tuesday that Nausėda was maintaining close contact with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and had expressed Lithuania’s full solidarity with its strategic partner following what it called a Russian hybrid attack in Leipzig.

“Russia’s attempts to intimidate us, weaken our common deterrence and break our resolve to support Ukraine are doomed to fail,” Nausėda said.

He added that the German government’s decisive actions sent a clear message that hybrid attacks against Lithuania or Germany would receive a clear and firm response.

Nausėda made the remarks after the German government said on Tuesday that Moscow was behind last month’s incident involving a drone loaded with explosives at Leipzig Airport, a strategic airport in eastern Germany.
