David Vseviov publishes third Uncle Moritz book

Estonian author David Vseviov has published his third book featuring Uncle Moritz, ERR reported.

Published by Varrak, “Uncle Moritz’s Memories Unaltered” follows the character as he recalls his kindergarten and schoolmates, his years working at Tallinn Fashion House, Tallinn Pedagogical Institute and the Lauristin Machine-Building Plant, as well as people he met in various situations.

Moritz considers it important that his memories have an educational purpose and does not want to repeat what he sees as the superficiality of published memoirs. The book also devotes many pages to the instructive life of his former friend Alfons, his marriage to the mysterious Tiivi and her unexpected disappearance.

The criminal story involving Alfons and Tiivi reaches a police station, creating two parallel and interwoven storylines: Moritz’s life story and the twists and turns of Alfons and Tiivi’s relationship.

It is unclear whether Moritz understands that much of his life has been meaningless. When he moves into a care home late in life, he instead concludes that life is still ahead of him. There, he unexpectedly meets Tiivi, and the two marry. The memories of Moritz, a previously confirmed bachelor, end with the words: “I am so happy.”

Uncle Moritz also appears in Vseviov’s earlier books “Biography: The First Two Weeks” from 2019 and “Uncle Moritz’s Dictionary” from 2021.
