Telia warns of fake invoices sent by fraudsters

Telia is warning customers about scam emails containing forged invoices, LRT reported. The messages urge recipients to pay an alleged debt or current bill for Telia services, but the bank details belong to fraudsters. Payments made using those details do not reach the service provider.

Telia cybersecurity chief Odeta Baranauskienė said the company was seeing realistic-looking invoices that used its logo and plausible information. She said customers should check such messages carefully before taking action.

One of the most common warning signs is the sender’s email address. Telia sends official invoices from [email protected], while fraudsters often use domains that look similar but differ by one letter, an additional symbol or another ending.

Customers should also be cautious if an email demands immediate payment, threatens service restrictions or provides unusual payment instructions. A new or previously unseen bank account should raise further suspicion.

If there is any doubt about an invoice, Telia advises customers not to click links, open attachments or make a payment. They should instead check the information through Telia’s self-service portal or contact the company through official customer service channels.

Anyone who suspects they have fallen victim and has already made a payment should immediately contact their bank, report the possible fraudulent transfer to the police and notify Telia. Customers should preserve all available evidence, including emails, invoice copies and payment information.
