Latvia issues possible airspace threat warning in Ludza municipality

LSM reports that a possible, yellow-level airspace threat has been declared in Ludza municipality. Residents received a cellular broadcast alert from the National Armed Forces, but no further action is currently required.

The National Armed Forces uses two levels of cellular alerts to inform residents about possible airspace threats. A yellow alert is informational and does not require immediate action, while an orange alert indicates a confirmed threat and requires residents to follow the instructions provided.

People in the affected area are advised to shelter indoors where at least two walls separate them from the outside. Those in cars should assess the situation, continue to a safe place or leave the vehicle, move away from the road and seek the nearest shelter.

After hearing an explosion, people should remain indoors and stay away from windows and doors. If an explosion occurs, they should leave only after receiving instructions from the responsible services, or no earlier than 10 minutes after the last explosion. Travel should resume slowly, after assessing the safety of the route.

People are also advised not to post photographs or videos on social media, to avoid spreading disinformation or revealing defensive positions. They should go to a basement or shelter only if the early warning system indicates that this is necessary.

The National Armed Forces has said that while Russia’s aggression against Ukraine continues, foreign unmanned aircraft may again enter or approach Latvian airspace.
