German discount chain Lidl Eesti recorded its highest-ever revenue in Estonia but still posted a loss of €24.12 million in the financial year ending in February, ERR reported.

The company’s revenue reached €169.45 million from March 2025 to the end of February 2026, up nearly 12 percent year on year.

Lidl attributed the growth in part to the continued expansion of its store network. It opened five new stores during the period, bringing its total in Estonia to 22. The company invested nearly €17 million in expanding its network and digitalisation.

The loss narrowed slightly from €25.51 million in the previous financial year. Lidl said operating at a loss was normal during an intensive phase of expansion and investment.

Lidl employed an average of 506 full-time workers, while labour costs totalled €16.61 million. The company paid €42 million in taxes to the Estonian state.

Egle Radziune, chief financial officer of Lidl Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, said the past financial year was characterised by continued growth and development, adding that the chain had a long-term plan for Estonia.

“The year-on-year increase in revenue clearly shows that people in Estonia have warmly welcomed Lidl’s product range and price-quality ratio,” Radziune said.

Lidl opened its first store in Estonia in 2022 and now operates stores in 10 Estonian cities.

The chain operates in 32 countries, where it runs 12,900 stores and more than 230 logistics centres employing a total of 395,000 people. All Lidl stores generated combined revenue of €140.2 billion in the 2025 financial year.

Lidl’s discount stores are part of the Schwarz Group, headquartered in Neckarsulm, Germany.
