Lithuania turns back 13 migrants at Belarus border

Thirteen irregular migrants were turned back at Lithuania’s border with Belarus during the previous day, the State Border Guard Service said on Friday, according to LRT.

Latvian border guards turned back 51 migrants on Thursday, while Polish authorities recorded eight attempts to enter the country illegally on Wednesday.

More than 1,200 irregular migrants have been prevented from entering Lithuania so far this year.

Last year, people attempted to enter Lithuania from Belarus through unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,800 foreign nationals from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to eastern EU member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
