Scammers defraud two Vilnius residents of €57,800

Scammers fraudulently took nearly €57,800 from two Vilnius residents, LRT reported, citing the Police Department.

A woman born in 1952 contacted the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat on Thursday at around 12:04 p.m. She said that, between June 26 and July 24, an unknown Russian-speaking caller contacted her at home in Vilnius and falsely presented himself as an investment fund employee. She lost €45,000.

At around 3:58 p.m. the same day, another woman contacted police in the capital. The woman, born in 1961, said an unknown Russian-speaking man had called her at home in Vilnius at around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, introducing himself as a financial consultant. She was defrauded of €12,850.

Police have opened pre-trial investigations into fraud in both cases.
