Several works by Latvia’s public service media outlet LSM have been nominated for the Latvian Journalists Association’s 2026 Excellence Awards, LSM’s news desk reported.
The award jury reviewed 180 entries and selected nominees in nine categories. This year, the awards were expanded to include the new categories Hoaxer of the Year, Golden Frame and Young Journalist of the Year. The previous Interview and Description category was also divided into two separate categories.
In the News or Reportage category, LSM nominee Anete Ašmane-Vilsone was recognised for a segment on Adolf Shapiro’s professional work in Latvia, broadcast on the programme Kultūras ziņas on June 29, 2026.
The other nominees in the category are Ivo Butkevičs for “This is a road to nowhere. In the Interview category, LSM and Latvijas Radio nominee Aidis Tomsons was recognised for an interview with Armands Broks on the programme Krustpunktā.
Other nominees in that category are Gerda Pulkstene and Valters Kārklis for “How to tame Steppenwolf. Ralfs Eilands” on TVNET; Ilze Vītola Grūzīte for “I chop firewood and carry water” in Santa; Kristīne Vīlite for “What are you, so young and pretty, doing in a monastery? In addition to the category awards, the association will present its annual lifetime achievement award for contributions to journalism. The award jury and the association’s board have also selected two special awards this year.
