Kulberg’s party gains support as two rivals clear 2%

Support for Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs’ political party, the United List, rose in August, while the other coalition parties lost ground, LSM reported. The Stabilitātei! and For Latvia’s Development parties also crossed the 2% support threshold, according to a poll conducted by the SKDS market and public opinion research centre from August 13 to 19.

Respondents were asked which political party or alliance they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held the following day. The figures include all eligible voters, including those who had not yet decided or said they would not vote.

The United List was supported by 15.2% of respondents in August, up from 12.2% in July.

Sovereign Power/New Latvians ranked second with 11.8%, compared with 11.4% in July. The Progressives remained third, although their support dipped from 9% to 8.8%.

The Progressives overtook Latvia First, whose support fell from 10% to 8.5%.

Support for the National Alliance fell from 5.5% to 4.5%, while New Unity’s rating declined from 4.3% in July to 4.2% in August. The Union of Greens and Farmers also fell slightly, from 2.9% to 2.8%.

Stabilitātei! rose from 1.9% in July to 2.7% in August, while For Latvia’s Development increased from 1.7% to 2.5%. Support for We Are Changing the Rules fell from 2.4% to 1.6%.

They were followed by Harmony Centre, Rising Sun for Latvia, the Gobzems list and the New Conservative Party.

Overall, 22.5% of respondents said they did not know which party they would vote for, while 11.2% said they would not participate in the election.

When only respondents who had decided how to vote were counted, along with their willingness to participate in the election, six parties would have cleared the 5% threshold for entering parliament.
