Police unions to meet prime minister over pay and benefits

The board of the National Association of Officers’ Trade Unions will meet Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius on Thursday to discuss conditions in statutory services and officers’ working conditions, LRT reported.

The unions will raise the need for competitive pay, stronger social guarantees and greater involvement of officers’ representatives in decision-making.

“Internal security is inseparable from the security and resilience of the state as a whole, so we expect the Government not only to acknowledge the problems but also to take concrete decisions on funding statutory services and attracting and retaining officers,” the association said in a statement.

The unions also want to hear what specific measures the Government plans to implement during the remainder of its term and what long-term measures are envisaged to strengthen statutory services.
