A man was found dead with multiple injuries at a home in Pašiliai village, Kėdainiai district, on Tuesday evening, and his brother is suspected of killing him with an axe, LRT reported.
Police said the body of a man born in 1976 was discovered at about 7.20 p.m. The suspected attacker, a man born in 1978, was detained and had a blood alcohol level of 1.64 parts per thousand.
The suspect reportedly called emergency services himself and said he had struck his brother with an axe. When asked whether anyone else was in the house, he said there were no other people there.
Emergency medical services and police were immediately sent to the address. Officers detained the 48-year-old suspect at the scene. The victim’s body showed numerous injuries, apparently caused by multiple blows.
The suspect is expected to be questioned after sobering up on Wednesday. Prosecutors are expected to ask a court to remand him in custody, potentially for the maximum period of three months.
Investigators are still determining what led to the fatal dispute between the brothers. A pre-trial investigation has been opened under the provision of Lithuania’s Criminal Code concerning the killing of a close relative or family member. It carries a prison sentence of between eight and 20 years, or life imprisonment.
