Latvia will purchase 12 additional diesel generators for Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, LSM reports, using 208,100 euros left over from an earlier procurement.

The Ministry of Economics is preparing amendments to its contract with Rīgas dīzelis DG for the additional generators. This will bring the total number of generators supplied to the Chernihiv region to 60.

The government approved the ministry’s proposal on February 24 to use 1.2 million euros allocated for the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region to purchase diesel generators.

Following negotiations, a procurement contract for 48 stationary diesel generators was signed with Rīgas dīzelis DG on April 30. The contract was valued at nearly 2 million euros, including 208,100 euros in value added tax.

Because the generators will be exported outside the European Union, the transaction is subject to a zero percent value added tax rate. The resulting 208,100 euro balance will be used to purchase the additional generators, in response to a request from the Chernihiv regional state administration for further support to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies.
