Grinda clears most damage after Vilnius storm

Vilnius municipal environmental management company Grinda received more than 700 reports during the weekend storm, LRT reported, citing the company.

Nearly nine out of 10 reports concerned fallen trees. Despite strong winds and heavy rainfall, there were relatively few cases of flooding on the streets, Grinda said.

Most of the storm damage has already been cleared, while crews are completing the remaining work according to priority. The company also plans to repair wind damaged flagpoles across the city and replace torn flags.

The storm that hit Lithuania on Saturday caused trees to fall, killing one person and injuring four others. More than 268,000 residents were left without electricity.

According to the latest data from ESO, 129,000 customers remain without power, mainly in the Kaunas, Utena, Panevėžys and Vilnius regions.

Fire and rescue services were called 2,525 times across Lithuania over the weekend to remove trees brought down by the storm, including 387 callouts in the Vilnius region.
