ERSO opened a new season of its Audio Spa concert series on Sunday at the barrel gallery of Viimsi Artium, alongside a major exhibition by the Estonian Watercolourists’ Association, ERR reported.
The meditative concert featured minimalist music, while visitors could view interpretations of coastal life by nearly 40 watercolorists. This season, the Audio Spa series will travel to concert venues with sea views.
“We have a sea-themed Audio Spa series consisting of four concerts. The next concerts will take place at Lennusadam, Kai Art Hall, the Cruise Terminal and Taru,” said Theodor Sink, concertmaster of ERSO’s cello section.
Sink said the programme was also valuable for the musicians because the works were not pieces they would usually perform in a concert hall. Instead, they took the musicians outside their comfort zone, creating what he described as a liberating and relaxing experience.
The exhibition at the Artium barrel gallery includes works by several recognised artists, including Toomas Rein and Naima Neidre, said Tiina Tammetalu, a board member of the Watercolourists’ Association.
The exhibition is titled “Life by the Sea”, a theme chosen with the location in mind. Each artist has approached it from their own perspective.
“The sea is something Estonian people are accustomed to sharing their worries and joys with, like a friend or family member. Everyone has some connection with the sea,” said curator Tiina Tarve.
The exhibition is open at Viimsi Artium’s barrel gallery until September 27.
