Estonia, storms, weather

A low pressure system from southern Europe has brought heavy rain and storm winds to Estonia, with conditions expected to peak late Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday, ERR reports. Sunday will also be rainy and windy.

Rain will continue overnight, with heavy showers in many places and a risk of thunderstorms. Northerly and northeasterly winds will blow in northern Estonia, while winds in southern Estonia will be southwesterly and in western Estonia northwesterly. Speeds will reach 8 to 14 metres per second, with gusts of up to 20 metres per second. Coastal winds will be stronger, reaching 21 metres per second, with gusts of up to 27 metres per second and up to 30 metres per second in the Gulf of Riga. Temperatures will remain between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius.

Sunday morning will be cloudy, with rain in many places. Southwesterly and westerly winds will reach 5 to 12 metres per second, with gusts of up to 15 to 22 metres per second. Temperatures will range from 13 to 16 degrees.

Rain will continue during the day, at times heavily, and thunderstorms are possible. Winds in southern Estonia will be southwesterly and westerly, while northern Estonia and the islands will mainly see northwesterly winds of 7 to 13 metres per second, with gusts of up to 22 metres per second. Temperatures will reach 14 to 18 degrees.

In the evening, central and eastern Estonia will remain cloudier, with rain in many places. Cloud cover will break up and rain will become less frequent in western Estonia. Westerly and northwesterly winds will reach 5 to 11 metres per second, with gusts of up to 17 metres per second. Temperatures will range from 13 to 17 degrees.

The new week will also begin with rain showers as a low pressure area to the east continues to influence the weather. Showers will be widespread on Monday but less frequent on Tuesday. Moderate northwesterly and northerly winds are expected, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 16 degrees overnight and 16 to 20 degrees during the day.

The chance of rain will be low on Wednesday, although fog will form in many places overnight. Temperatures will average 9 degrees at night and 20 degrees during the day. The current forecast indicates that Thursday night will remain dry, while showers will return to several areas during the day.
