The Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS) will approve part of its mayoral candidate list and discuss preparations for the 2027 municipal council and mayoral elections at a council meeting on Saturday, LRT reported, citing ELTA.

“We will approve mayoral candidates. As far as I know, there will be 12 new candidates in addition to those already approved,” Ligita Girskienė told ELTA.

The council will also approve the visual concept for the election campaign and discuss organisational matters related to the municipal elections, she said.

In July, Girskienė said LVŽS planned to nominate candidates in every municipality where it had a local branch. “We plan to nominate candidates in all municipalities where we have branches. We may not succeed in all 60, but we will probably have candidates in 55,” she said at the time.

LVŽS currently holds mayoral posts in eight municipalities: Kęstutis Tubis in Anykščiai District Municipality, Laimutis Ragaišis in Ignalina District Municipality, Bronius Markauskas in Klaipėda District Municipality, Arvydas Nekrošius in Raseiniai District Municipality, Stasys Gutauskas in Skuodas District Municipality, Raimundas Januševičius in Šakiai District Municipality, Česlovas Greičius in Šiauliai District Municipality and Erlandas Galaguz in Visaginas Municipality.

The municipal council and mayoral elections will be held in spring 2027. Campaigning by candidates taking part in the elections will begin in September 2026.
