Strong winds and heavy rain forecast across Estonia this weekend
Strong winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across Estonia this weekend, ERR reports. Rain will reach southern Estonia on Saturday morning and quickly spread across the country, while a cyclone will move northeast over eastern Estonia on Sunday.
Saturday will begin with variable cloud cover, scattered showers and fog in several places. Rain will intensify from the south during the day and reach northern Estonia. Thunderstorms are also possible. Winds will gradually strengthen, reaching gusts of up to 21 metres per second on the islands and western coast and up to 26 metres per second over the Gulf of Riga. Temperatures will rise to 16 to 21 degrees Celsius.
Rain will continue into Saturday evening, with locally heavy showers and possible thunderstorms. Winds will reach gusts of up to 20 metres per second on the northern coast and up to 25 metres per second on the western coast and islands.
Sunday will remain cloudy, with rain, locally heavy precipitation and thunderstorms. While winds will be moderate inland, gusts along the coast may reach 30 metres per second. The wind will ease in the evening. Temperatures will range from 10 to 15 degrees overnight and 14 to 18 degrees during the day.
At the beginning of next week, cloud cover will vary and showers will continue, with average temperatures around 18 degrees. By Wednesday, the skies will clear somewhat, significant precipitation is not expected and the average temperature will rise to about 20 degrees.
