European Council President António Costa will visit Tallinn on August 25 to meet Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, ERR reported. The talks at Stenbock House will focus primarily on the European Union’s next long-term budget for 2028 to 2034.

Michal and Costa will also discuss continued support for Ukraine, the future of EU enlargement and ways to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, the government’s communications office said.

“Europe’s next long-term budget must respond to today’s security situation. Europe must contribute more to defence, especially in the eastern border region, competitiveness, critical cross-border connections and support for Ukraine,” Michal said.

The meeting will also address the need to maintain support for Ukraine, accelerate its accession negotiations and continue increasing economic pressure on Russia, the communications office said.

Michal and Costa will make press statements after the meeting.
