Court orders three-month detention for Zarasai murder suspect

Utena District Court on Friday granted a prosecution request to detain for three months a man suspected of killing a woman in Zarasai District, LRT reported, citing the prosecution service.
The three-month period is the maximum for which a suspect can be detained.
Police received a report at about 4:40 a.m. that a 40-year-old woman had been found dead with a gunshot wound at a homestead in the Dusetos eldership of Zarasai District. A search for the suspect began immediately, involving substantial police forces.
Officers from Aras, the Lithuanian police anti-terrorist operations unit, were also sent to the scene. The State Border Guard Service was notified of the incident.
At about 7:40 a.m. in Utena, officers stopped a car at the intersection of Pramonės and J. Basanavičiaus streets and detained the 50-year-old suspect who was travelling in it.
Initial investigation data indicates that the man and the woman had previously been married.
