Court orders three-month detention for son suspected of killing father

Panevėžys District Court on Friday granted a prosecutor’s request to detain for three months a 25-year-old man suspected of killing his father, LRT reports, citing ELTA.

The court said detention was justified because the suspect could flee or hide from investigators, the prosecutor or the court, and could commit further crimes.

Police said the suspect is believed to have fatally injured his father while intoxicated. The body of a man born in 1960 was found at about 12:35 a.m. Friday in an apartment on Kranto Street in Panevėžys. It had multiple signs of violence.

The suspect, who had a blood alcohol level of 2.03 per mille, was taken into detention. A pre-trial investigation into murder has been opened.
