Polli says Estonian art is reaching new heights worldwide

Kumu director and art historian Kadi Polli told ERR at a reception in the president’s rose garden that international engagement with art is thriving and Estonian art is currently reaching new heights worldwide.

“Thirty-five years of having our own state has been very important for art. The art museum has had a very good year: we have taken Estonian art to Paris and London, and we recently held an exhibition by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson at Kumu,” Polli said.

Polli said that, alongside Konrad Mäe, artist Anu Põder also deserved recognition. The museum took Põder’s work to Paris and will take it to Sweden in the autumn.

“Anu Põder is currently the Estonian artist reaching the greatest heights,” Polli said. “International engagement with art is really thriving.”
