Balvi Municipality Council opposition member Imants Slišāns of the Latgale Party resigned his mandate at a council meeting on Thursday, LSM reported.
Slišāns had served as a councillor for more than 17 years, first on the former Baltinava Municipality Council and later on the Balvi Municipality Council following the administrative territorial reform.
“During these years, I have had the opportunity to express my views and arguments. Unfortunately, on several important issues, my vote could not always influence decisions because we were in the minority. But that is democracy: decisions are made by the majority,” Slišāns said.
The next Latgale Party candidate who could take Slišāns’s seat is physician Jānis Vancāns, who finished just outside the elected candidates in the 2025 elections.
