Children’s hospital modernises operating rooms and opens new centres

Latvia’s Children’s Clinical University Hospital has modernised six operating rooms and opened new facilities for medical training and the treatment of children with developmental disorders, LSM reported on Wednesday.

The hospital’s new Simulation Training Centre will allow doctors to practise paediatric treatment using mannequins representing patients of different ages, from premature babies to teenagers. The centre is equipped for training in procedures including oxygen administration and basic life support.

Hospital staff also plan to train parents to insert an intubation tube or feeding tube and administer injections safely when such procedures must be performed at home. Training sessions can be recorded on video and audio so participants can review them later.

The six operating rooms were modernised with European support. The hospital has also opened a new Neuropsychological Development Centre, which provides early intervention and diagnostic services for children with autism spectrum disorders or intellectual disabilities. A multidisciplinary team will work at the centre.
