More than 380 new Lithuanian Armed Forces soldiers began mandatory initial military service on Monday at the King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion, LRT reported.
Nearly all of the soldiers decided to perform the service voluntarily, according to the military.
During their first days, they will learn about the military unit’s internal procedures, service organisation and commanders. They will also receive the necessary equipment and begin their adaptation and initial training.
For the first three months, the soldiers will take part in a basic soldier course covering the fundamentals of tactics, weapons handling, topography, first aid, communications procedures and other essential military skills.
After completing the basic training, they will be assigned specific duties at the King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion, where they will continue developing practical skills and learn to carry out tasks individually and as part of a team.
The battalion belongs to the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Iron Wolf infantry brigade. Its soldiers are trained to carry out national defence tasks and operate alongside other Lithuanian and NATO allied military units.
After completing mandatory initial military service, the soldiers can choose to continue in professional military service, study at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania or join the Lithuanian Armed Forces active reserve.
