Rescuers find young man’s body near Palanga bridge

Rescuers found a young man’s body in the sea near the bridge in Palanga, a resort town, after reports that a person had gone missing, LRT.lt reported, citing readers and the Fire and Rescue Department.

Emergency services received the call at 8:11 p.m. on Saturday. Divers were sent into the water to search for the missing person.

The initial report referred to a drowning man, while later information indicated that a teenager might have disappeared in the sea. The Fire and Rescue Department said it did not initially have precise information about what had happened.

Witnesses near the bridge told LRT.lt that holidaymakers also joined the search, wading into the water while holding hands in an attempt to find the missing person.

The news website lrytas.lt reported that the young man’s body was found at 9:22 p.m.
