Video examines links between Ceuta migration crisis and Sabile procession

LSM.lv and Latvian Radio 5’s Pieci.lv examine the migration crisis in Ceuta on the border between Europe and Africa and a procession at festivities in Sabile, Latvia, where participants dressed as people of different origins.

At first glance, the two events appear to have little in common. However, both raised the question of how people from other backgrounds are perceived.

Most people did not witness either event in Ceuta or Sabile in person. Their impressions were shaped by videos and photographs shared on social media.

The programme “What is really happening?” explains what occurred in both cases and how the discussion developed into a division between “us” and “them”.
