Prime minister and top court chair address funding, Liteko II

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and Danguolė Bublienė, chair of Lithuania’s Judicial Council and Supreme Court, discussed funding shortages, staff shortages and the operation of the Liteko II system, LRT reported, citing the Supreme Court.

The meeting also covered the implementation of government programme commitments to ensure the professionalism and independence of the courts and strengthen the corps of judges’ assistants.

“The most important issues for the court system were discussed, including insufficient funding, a shortage of human resources, the condition of court infrastructure and other systemic challenges,” the Supreme Court said.

Bublienė said additional investment was needed to ensure the reliable operation and further development of Liteko II, the court system’s information system.

The prime minister and the Supreme Court chair also discussed the critical condition of some court buildings. According to the statement, several buildings are in extremely poor condition and in some cases pose a risk to the safety of employees and visitors.

Bublienė said the issue should be addressed through consistent renovation of court buildings and infrastructure. She added that Sinkevičius had promised to seek solutions on court employees’ salaries and additional funding for the system’s most essential needs.
