LRT reports that Lithuania’s Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė has dismissed Juozas Bagdonavičius, a prosecutor in the second division of the Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office under the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The decision followed an internal investigation, which found that Bagdonavičius had seriously breached his professional duties by deliberately using physical violence against his wife during a conflict at their home on June 27.

On the same day, Grunskienė opened a pre-trial investigation into allegations of causing physical pain or minor health impairment and threatening to kill or seriously injure a person. On July 30, the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office referred the criminal case to court. Bagdonavičius, who had been suspended, was charged with causing minor harm to a family member and making a death threat.

The disciplinary recommendation stated that the alleged violence and the criminal charges were incompatible with the status and duties of a prosecutor. The dismissal was imposed as the strictest disciplinary penalty.
