Jan Uuspõld finds his own experiences in Charlie Sheen memoir

Estonian actor Jan Uuspõld said on ERR’s Ringvaade that he repeatedly identified with Charlie Sheen while reading the actor’s memoir, “The Sheen Book,” and that the book reminded him of situations from his own life.

“Charlie Sheen is an extremely interesting person who has been through an incredible amount,” Uuspõld said. He described Sheen as sincere, open and someone who speaks without a filter. Sheen has reportedly been free of addictions for the past eight years.

About half of the book deals with Sheen’s alcohol and drug addictions, Uuspõld said. Sheen’s success took him to exclusive nightclubs with expensive membership fees, while fame, women and drugs contributed to a loss of his sense of reality, he said.

Uuspõld said he used to identify strongly with the protagonists of books he read when he was younger. While reading Sheen’s memoir, he found many of the situations familiar.

He recalled a story in which Sheen, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, charmed a pilot into letting him fly a passenger plane carrying several hundred people. Uuspõld compared this with an incident from his own past, when he persuaded a snowplough driver in Tallinn’s Old Town to let him clear snow.

Uuspõld met Sheen in 2019 near Santa Monica in Los Angeles. He saw the actor talking to a security guard and said he immediately sensed that Sheen was a friendly and down-to-earth person.

“It is possible to be a completely honest and open person. You do not have to lie all the time,” Uuspõld said.
