Partial solar eclipse peaked over Tallinn at 80 percent

A partial solar eclipse was visible in Estonia on Wednesday, reaching its peak over Tallinn at 20:53, when the Moon covered more than 80 percent of the Sun’s disk, ERR reported.

The eclipse began in Tallinn at 20:02 and lasted one hour and 18 minutes, ending at 21:19 when the Sun dropped below the horizon. At its peak, the Sun was only a few degrees above the horizon in the western and northwestern sky.

The Sun appeared as a narrow crescent during the maximum phase.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun in its orbit. Although the Moon’s diameter is about 400 times smaller than the Sun’s, its much closer distance to Earth allows it to completely cover the star.

Estonia will next see a total solar eclipse in 2126.
