Kulberg government completes seven of 61 priority tasks

Latvia’s government has fully completed seven of its 61 priority tasks, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs of the United List said, according to LSM. Several dozen other tasks are in progress and remain within their deadlines, while at least three priorities are delayed for various reasons.

The completed work includes tasks in defence, justice, healthcare and energy. The Foreign Ministry also completed a priority by securing Latvia’s successful participation in the NATO summit in Ankara.

Kulbergs said two tasks had missed their deadlines, although the work itself had been completed and opinions were still pending. One opinion was delayed because the European Commission was on holiday, while another was about a week late after the Climate and Energy Ministry completed its part of the work.

One task will not be completed on time and has been postponed by one month to November. It involves developing a model for an Altum equity fund to encourage investment in Latvian companies. The prime minister’s office said approval from the European Commission was needed to confirm that the state aid complies with the rules.

Under the Defence Ministry, Ukraine’s experience has been adopted and integrated into Latvia’s defence sector. Latvia and Ukraine have signed a cooperation agreement known as the Drone Deal, with further information expected this month, Kulbergs said.

At the NATO summit, a decision was also reached to establish a Canadian military bank in Latvia that will work directly with the Baltic region. Canada announced that it would extend its military presence in Latvia, including the number of troops, until 2031.

About a month ago, only three of the government’s 61 priority tasks had been fully completed.
