Border guards detain four suspected Iraqi citizens at Kaunas Airport

State Border Guard Service officers detained four people suspected of being Iraqi citizens at Kaunas Airport after they allegedly tried to fly to Mallorca using forged foreign documents, LRT reported, citing the service.

Checks showed that the four had allegedly left the foreigner registration centre in Rukla.

On Friday afternoon, officers working at Kaunas Airport received information from an airline employee about a passenger planning to travel to Mallorca who had allegedly presented a forged document.

The man identified himself as a Portuguese citizen and presented a Portuguese passport. Officers determined that the passport was possibly forged and that the man was possibly an Iraqi citizen.

Suspecting that other passengers on the same flight might also be attempting to leave illegally, the officers carried out profiling and identified three more people for inspection. Two allegedly presented forged Italian passports, while another presented a possibly forged Portuguese passport.

The four suspected Iraqi citizens were born in 2001, 2001, 2004 and 2007.

The Vilnius Border Guard Unit has launched pre-trial investigations into the forging of documents or possession of forged documents. The investigations are being conducted by officers from the unit’s Pre-Trial Investigation Division under the supervision of prosecutors from the second division of the Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office.
