Helen Randmets said her longtime dream of recording a song with rapper and singer Reket had come true, ERR reported. She discussed the collaboration and Nexus’s recent live performance on the radio programme R2 Hommik!

Randmets recalled the energy of performing with Nexus before a huge crowd at the Õllesummer festival in early July. During the concert, Kermo Murel unexpectedly joined the band on stage and performed the song “Lubasid tulla”, singing Koit Toome’s part.

“You get so much energy back from the crowd. The audience was so involved in our performance. When Kermo came on stage, the crowd went wild,” Randmets said.

She said Nexus had last performed live at the song festival grounds in 2006. After that, the group played at a few private events before splitting up.

“People still listen to us, and I was very surprised by how varied the audience was. The fact that we were able to perform on such a large stage is a huge surprise. We have not released any new songs in the meantime,” Randmets said.

Alongside her work with Nexus, Randmets has continued with her own music. Her new song “Samu tähti” was recorded with Reket, who sings rather than raps on the track.

“Singing with Reket has been my secret dream for years. I like his earlier collaborations with Elina Born, Anett and Liis Lemsalu,” Randmets said.

She said she called Reket and invited him to the studio, adding that calling him might make it harder for him to refuse. They then began experimenting with the song.

“An important part was also what the song would be about. It cannot be just empty talk about love; it has to be something deeper,” Randmets said.
