Georgian folk ensemble Iberi to perform in Tallinn

Georgian vocal ensemble Iberi will headline an evening dedicated to Georgian culture at Paavli cultural factory in Tallinn on August 11, ERR reported.

Iberi combines Georgia’s polyphonic singing tradition with improvisation. Its repertoire includes church songs from different regions of Georgia, historical ballads, lullabies and work songs, traditional celebratory songs, and newer urban folk music.

The ensemble has performed in Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia.

Georgian polyphonic singing is one of the central forms of expression of the country’s cultural identity and is included on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The sound of the tradition varies significantly by region, from the long drones of eastern Georgia to the polyphony and virtuosic krimanchuli yodelling of western Georgia.

The event will also introduce Georgian food and wine culture. After the concert, the evening will continue with a DJ programme.
