Police detain two Kaunas men over cocaine and automatic weapons

Police in Kaunas, a city in Lithuania, have detained two men suspected of distributing cocaine and illegally possessing firearms, including automatic weapons, LRT reported, citing police.

The two residents of Kaunas County were detained in Kaunas on August 3, police said on Monday.

According to the pretrial investigation, officers found at least 700 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine in their possession. Police suspect that one of the men gave about 100 grams to the other for distribution.

Searches also uncovered three firearms allegedly held without permits and three magazines containing ammunition. Police suspect that two of the weapons were automatic.

Both men were charged with possessing narcotics for distribution and illegally possessing firearms. A court ordered that they be remanded in custody.

The 49-year-old Kaunas resident had no previous convictions. The 47-year-old resident of Kaunas District had previously been convicted in Lithuania of negligent accounting, bribery, document forgery, fraud and misappropriation of property. He had also been convicted abroad.

The investigation is being organised and led by Nomeda Urbanavičienė, a prosecutor at the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
