Scammers steal nearly 28,700 euros from five Lithuanian residents

Scammers stole about 28,700 euros from five residents of Vilnius and Klaipėda counties, LRT reported, citing police.

In Vilnius on Sunday, a man born in 1976 clicked a link sent to his phone about an alleged penalty. After entering his online banking details, about 13,700 euros was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account.

Vilnius county police said three other residents may also have fallen victim to scammers. A woman born in 1984 reported that about 3,000 euros was taken from her account after she logged into a fake banking website at home.

Under similar circumstances, about 6,000 euros was taken from a man born in 1949, while 2,999 euros was taken from a woman born in 1973.

Klaipėda county police said a woman born in 1990 reported that 2,999 euros had been unlawfully taken from her bank account while she was trying to log in on Sunday.

Pretrial investigations into the suspected fraud cases have been launched.
