Prosecutors send alleged poisoning case involving partner and son to court

Prosecutors have sent a criminal case against a woman accused of attempting to kill her partner and minor son by poisoning them with medication to the Riga District Court, LSM reported.

On August 7, a prosecutor from the Pierīga Prosecutor’s Office submitted the case to court. The woman, a healthcare professional, is accused of attempting to kill two people under particularly aggravating circumstances.

According to the prosecution, the woman used her professional knowledge of medication, including its use, effects and administration, and was motivated by personal reasons. In December 2025, at their residence in Mārupė, she allegedly first gave both victims medication. After they fell asleep, she administered various medications to them orally and by injection while they were helpless.

The alleged killings were not completed for reasons beyond the woman’s control. Another person arrived at the residence the following day and called emergency medical services. Both victims were taken to a medical facility.

The medication caused both victims to develop life-threatening conditions, which were assessed as serious bodily injuries.

The prosecution stressed that no person is considered guilty until their guilt in a criminal offence has been established in accordance with the procedure set out in the Criminal Procedure Law.
