ETV2 dedicates theme evening to Helgi Sallo

Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports that ETV2, a television channel, will dedicate its Sunday theme evening to actress and singer Helgi Sallo, who turns 85 on August 10.

Theme evening schedule

At 7.30 p.m., “Tähtelaev: Helgi Sallo” (2005) will feature Sallo, her daughter Liina Vahtrik and theatre. The programme, hosted by Grete Lõbu and directed by Kalev Lepik, looks at how talent and chance led Sallo to become a singer and actress. It also follows Vahtrik’s path from homemaker to theatre school and the stage.

At 8.45 p.m., “Tuleb tuttav ette: Teatriõhtu. Helgi Sallo” (2005) will focus on Sallo through footage from the ETV archive. Guests will include Sallo, camera operator Harry Rehe, Tanel Vainumäe, musician Tõnu Saller and Eri Klas. Reet Linna will conduct the interviews, and Maire Radsin directed the programme.

At 9.30 p.m., “Helgi Sallo operettides ja muusikalides” (1971) will show Sallo performing scenes from operettas and musicals, accompanied by the Estonia orchestra, choir and dancers. The programme was directed by Sulev Nõmmik.

At 9.50 p.m., “Helenduv olend: Helgi Sallo” (2009) will feature an interview with Sallo by Vahur Kersna.

The evening will conclude at 10.20 p.m. with “Helgi! Helgi Sallo” (1983), featuring Sallo performing operetta songs with Liina Sallo, Hans Miilberg, the Estonia opera and ballet troupe, and the ETV and Estonian Radio variety orchestra conducted by Paul Mägi. The programme was directed by Elmo Lööve.
