LRT reports that an investigation into comedian Olegas Šurajevas on suspicion of illegally possessing narcotic or psychotropic substances without intent to distribute them remains ongoing, prosecutors said.

“The pre-trial investigation into suspected unlawful possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances without the intent to distribute them is continuing. The person mentioned in your inquiry has been charged in this investigation,” Gintarė Vitkauskaitė-Šatkauskienė, a representative of the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office, told the ELTA news agency.

Asked why the investigation had taken so long, she said that authorities were “waiting for conclusions”. She did not specify whether this referred to expert assessments.

Such investigations commonly include examinations of substances found, as well as other objects. Expert assessments may also be ordered concerning the suspects themselves.

Police said in April that they had received a report that young people at the Vilnius Comedy Club might have drugs. Officers found suspected narcotic substances on a man born in 1988, identified as Šurajevas, and opened a pre-trial investigation.

Under the Criminal Code, illegally producing, processing, acquiring, possessing, transporting or sending narcotic or psychotropic substances without intending to sell or otherwise distribute them is punishable by community service, a fine, restriction of liberty, arrest or imprisonment for up to two years.
