Cooler and drier weather will return to Lithuania this weekend after a hot and stormy week, but rain and thunderstorms are expected to return from Monday, LRT reported, citing Simona Dalinkevičiūtė, a forecaster with the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

High pressure will strengthen over Lithuania on Saturday night, pushing away dense cloud cover, although skies will remain partly cloudy. No rain is expected overnight, with moderate southwesterly and westerly winds.

A small area of moisture will move north of Lithuania during the day, bringing brief rain mainly to the northern districts. Westerly and northwesterly winds will strengthen to 8 to 13 metres per second. Temperatures will fall to 12 to 17 degrees Celsius overnight and rise to 18 to 23 degrees during the day.

Rain is unlikely on Sunday. Fog may reduce visibility in some places during the second half of the night and in the morning, while winds will ease. Overnight temperatures will range from 9 to 14 degrees, reaching 15 to 17 degrees on the western edge of the country. Warmer air will return during the day, with temperatures rising to 22 to 27 degrees in the afternoon.

Weather conditions will begin changing again at the start of next week. Monday night will remain clear and dry, but rain will begin along the coast during the day and spread across much of western Lithuania by evening. Thunderstorms are possible in some places.

Southeasterly and southerly winds will gradually turn southwesterly and strengthen to 8 to 13 metres per second. Temperatures will range from 11 to 16 degrees overnight and rise to 25 to 30 degrees during the day. The coast will be cooler, with temperatures of 22 to 24 degrees.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue across Lithuania on Tuesday. Temperatures will fall to 11 to 16 degrees overnight and rise to 18 to 23 degrees during the day.
