Lithuania turns back seven migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back seven irregular migrants at the border with Belarus on Thursday, LRT reported, citing the State Border Guard Service (VSAT).

Latvian border guards turned back 104 migrants over the same 24-hour period, while Poland’s border service reported no such cases on Wednesday.

Last year, Lithuanian officials prevented more than 1,600 people from entering the country from Belarus at unauthorised locations. The figure stands at 1,063 so far this year.

Since the start of the migration crisis linked to Belarus, about 25,600 irregular migrants have been prevented from entering Lithuania.

Migrants began arriving in the eastern European Union countries in large numbers in 2021. Western countries blamed the Minsk regime for the situation.
