Scammers steal about 15,600 euros from three people

Scammers stole about 15,600 euros from three people in separate incidents, LRT reported, citing police.

A man born in 1982 told Alytus County Police that 8,400 euros had been fraudulently transferred from his bank account to other accounts on August 1 and 2. A pre-trial investigation into fraud has been opened.

Vilnius police said a woman born in 1970 reported that unknown callers contacted her at home in Vilnius on July 13. According to her statement, the callers posed as representatives of a telecommunications company and police officers and tricked her out of 5,214 euros.

Investigators are examining possible fraud, unlawful use of an electronic payment instrument or its data, and the impersonation of a civil servant or another person performing public administration functions.

Another person may have fallen victim to scammers in Telšiai. Police said that at 7:50 p.m. on August 2, a man born in 2007 entered his electronic banking details after clicking on a fake online banking app at his home on Padurbinio Street. About 1,989 euros were then unlawfully withdrawn from his bank account.

A pre-trial investigation has been opened into the manufacture of a counterfeit electronic payment instrument, the forgery or unlawful possession of a genuine electronic payment instrument, or the unlawful possession of its data.
