Jelgava school principal disciplined over exam irregularities

A Jelgava school principal has been disciplined over violations in the administration of centralised examinations, LSM reported, citing the LETA news agency.

Entries in several ninth-graders’ centralised mathematics examination papers were found to be in different handwriting. An assessment by the State Education Development Agency concluded that, during the examination, an unauthorised person who was not involved in administering the exam had accessed the papers and independently written solutions to tasks.

The agency’s procedure commission decided that the students would receive credit only for the tasks they had completed themselves. The agency also asked the State Police to assess whether a criminal offence had been committed, but criminal proceedings were not opened because no elements of a criminal offence were found. The State Education Quality Service said Jelgava Municipality had imposed a disciplinary sanction on the principal of the educational institution over the violations in the state examination process.
