Adamkus backs photo exhibition planned for his 100th birthday

Former President Valdas Adamkus has approved an initiative to hold a photography exhibition marking his 100th birthday, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said after meeting him on Tuesday, LRT reported.

Sinkevičius said the exhibition would present photographs of Adamkus’s life and work taken by photographer Antanas Sutkus. It could open at the Palace of the Grand Dukes ahead of the anniversary and later travel around Lithuania, including to Kaunas and Klaipėda.

“I am pleased that the president viewed this initiative and the proposal, which I am supporting as a politician, positively, and that it will be implemented,” Sinkevičius told reporters.

Adamkus will turn 100 on November 3. Various events and initiatives are planned to commemorate the former president’s life and work.

Adamkus served as president for two terms, from 1998 to 2003 and from 2004 to 2009.

Sinkevičius said Adamkus was an inspiration and an example of how to unite society during difficult periods. He said Lithuania needed to bring people closer together and seek agreement rather than divide, confront or compete too aggressively.
