Vehicle traffic has been closed and pedestrian movement restricted near an unoccupied building at 8 Daugavpils Street in Riga because of a possible safety risk, LSM reported, citing the municipality.
The building is in poor condition, and its structural elements could collapse. A dangerous deformation has been identified in the load-bearing structures on the second floor, creating a risk that parts of the building could fall onto the pavement and roadway.
The building is unoccupied and had previously been classified as a blighted structure. A building inspector inspected the property on Monday, August 3, after which the street section next to the building was closed and the hazardous area cordoned off.
The building’s owner has been ordered to eliminate the danger.
