Police seek charges against woman accused of poisoning son and partner

Latvia’s State Police have recommended charging a woman born in 1981 with attempting to murder her son and partner by poisoning them with medication, LSM reported, citing the police. She has been taken into custody.

Investigators allege that the woman poisoned the two people on December 8 last year and then attempted suicide by poisoning herself with medication.

The State Police completed the investigation on July 22 and sent the criminal case to the Pierīga Prosecutor’s Office to begin prosecution. The case concerns attempted murder.

The offense carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment or 15 to 20 years in prison, along with probation supervision for up to three years, with or without confiscation of property.
