Association “Comprehensive Defence” head Tomas Godliauskas has been appointed to Lithuania’s National Comprehensive Defence Coordination Council by a decree from President Gitanas Nausėda, LRT reported.
The association said his participation would help implement the state defence plan and strengthen the involvement of institutions, organisations, communities and citizens in national defence.
“Comprehensive defence becomes effective only when each participant knows their role, is prepared for it and can act together with others,” Godliauskas said in a statement. He said the association aimed to achieve a “swarm effect” by 2030, with the state having a plan and each person knowing their place in it and being prepared.
The association said it would focus on preparing society and organisations, involving them in defence planning, developing practical mechanisms for action and assessing progress in comprehensive defence.
The National Comprehensive Defence Coordination Council is an advisory expert group formed by the president. It considers the implementation of goals set out in the state defence plan, the preparedness of different participants in the comprehensive defence system and their coordination.
