Young artists lead Augustibluus festival’s second day

Musicians from eight countries performed on the second day of the Augustibluus blues festival, ERR reported. Festival organiser Raul Ukareda said Saturday’s programme again showed that young musicians are carrying blues forward.

“It has been a very positive and enlightening festival year, with the best blues music performed by young artists,” Ukareda said. “Blues is no longer being carried forward by touring giants from the last century, but by young people who live, breathe and play this style every day.”

The main stage featured the Swedish-American family band Gunhild Carling and The Carling Family, known for their New Orleans-inspired horn sound. British musicians Will Wilde performed on harmonica and Toby Lee on electric guitar.

The stage at Haapsalu railway station hosted Australian musician Mr Black and Blues, Finnish trio Micke and Lefty featuring Chef, and Estonian slide guitarist Andres Roots, who marked his 50th birthday with a special programme.

The promenade dance pavilion stage was also popular. It opened with a blues-and-poetry event held for the 12th year, hosted by Georg Merilo with guests Mihkel Raud and guitarist Brad Jürjens.
